Dr. Geert W.J.M. Driessen studeerde na zijn opleiding tot onderwijzer voltooid
te hebben onderwijskunde en pedagogiek. Hij is gepromoveerd op een onderzoek
naar de onderwijspositie van allochtone leerlingen in het basisonderwijs. Momenteel is hij als senior-onderzoeker verbonden aan het ITS (Instituut voor Toegepaste Sociale Wetenschappen) van de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen.
Eerder was hij op het ITS tevens lid van de Ondernemingsraad, Sectormanager Onderwijs en lid van het Managementteam.
Dr. Geert W.J.M. Driessen received a teacher's degree before continuing on to study educational theory. His Ph.D. thesis focused on the educational position of ethnic minority students in primary education. Currently he is a senior educational researcher at the ITS (Institute for Applied Social Sciences) of the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. At ITS, he also served as a member of the Works Council, Head of the Department of Education, and member of the Management Team.
Zijn expertise ligt op het brede terrein van onderwijs in relatie tot etniciteit, sociaal milieu en sekse/gender. Centrale thema’s zijn:
Hij was, respectievelijk is onder meer betrokken bij de grootschalige cohortstudies VOCL (in het voortgezet onderwijs; 400 scholen, 20.000 leerlingen), PRIMA (in het primair onderwijs; 600 scholen, 60.000 leerlingen) en COOL5-18 (in het primair en voortgezet onderwijs en in het middelbaar beroepsonderwijs; 750 scholen, 52.000 leerlingen), en bij de beleidsevaluaties rond het Onderwijsvoorrangsbeleid (OVB), Onderwijsachterstandenbeleid (OAB), het Onderwijs in Eigen Taal en Cultuur (OETC), Voor- en Vroegschoolse Educatie (VVE) en de Brede School. Daarnaast was hij projectleider van vele tientallen onderzoeken. Hij maakt ook deel uit van het Expertisecentrum Ouders, school en buurt (voor info, klik hier.) | His expertise lies in the field of education in relation to ethnicity/race, social milieu and sex/gender. His major research interests include:
Among other things, he was/is involved in the large-scale secondary school cohort study VOCL (400 schools, 20,000 students), the large-scale primary school cohort study PRIMA (600 schools, 60,000 students), and the large-scale cohort study COOL5-18 (primary, secondary, and senior secondary vocational education; 750 schools, 52,000 students). These cohort studies were initiated to monitor the Dutch education system in general and to evaluate policies such as the Educational Priority Policy. He also performed policy evaluations with regard to Bilingual Education Programs, Early Childhood Education Programs, and Community Schools.
